Ghana celebrates Independence Day outside of Accra for the first time

Unlike previous years that the celebration of Ghana’s Independence Day has been held in Accra, today’s celebration will be happening in the capital of the Northern Region, Tamale, outside of Accra. This is the first time in the history of Ghana..

The Ghanaian President, Nana Akufo-Addo said, “In order to reinforce and support the process of reconciliation and the restoration of peace in Dagbon, I have decided that this year, the 62nd Independence Day celebration will be held in Tamale on 6th March.”

“This will be the first time in our nation’s history that the celebration is being held outside of our national capital, Accra. I am very much looking forward to it,” he added.

The special Guest of Honour at today’s celebration is the President of Niger, Mahamadou Issoufou. The occasion will also be graced by traditional leaders, and other personalities and international dignitaries.
