One of the biggest news in music in Africa right now is that Tiwa Savage has signed to the Universal Music Group, UMG!!! The news broke out on Thursday, May 2, 2019, when Tiwa took to her social media page to share the news along with picture of she and her new Management team. With this new, huge development, Tiwa Savage will have her future music released internationally through UMG’s operatons in more than 60 countries across the world!! Universal Music Group (UMG), the world leader in music-based entertainment, is an American music company that can boast of musicians like Rihave, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, and many more.
The executive producers on these projects will be Efe Ogbeni and Vannessa Amadi-Ogbonna, of Stealth Management who have expressed that, “We’re very proud to be a part of this ground-breaking partnership between Tiwa Savage and Universal Music Group. Tiwa is undoubtedly the most hardworking and talented female artist crossing over from Africa to the rest of the world, and UMG has demonstrated its commitment to the Continent by placing its formidable machinery behind her amazing career. Partnerships like these symbolise the hopes and dreams of so many talented artists back home in Africa and it is an honour to be the executive producers of her project.”
Expressing her joy, Tiwa wrote: “My biggest goal is to make Africa proud. I’m so excited for this moment and I’m thankful to Sir Lucian Grainge and my new UMG family for their belief in my dreams. I’m looking forward to this next chapter in my career and I’m more ready than I have ever been.”
The Market EVP Market Development, UMG, Adam Granite, had this to say: “We are looking forward to partnering with Tiwa and her team to help her music reach new audiences around the world. As one of Africa’s most successful, influential and dynamic singer-songwriters, Tiwa has truly global ambitions and UMG is committed to help her in achieving them.”
There were earlier rumors going around that Tiwa Savage had left Don Jazzy few weeks ago. However, this news was quickly denied and brought to be. However, this it is not official that the Afro-pop hits maker has finally left her godfather, Don Jazzy and his Mavin Records for this great opportunity with UMG.
Don Jazzy also confirmed the news via social media: “Our darling Tiwatope. We at Mavin would like to say a very big thank you for being such an inspiration to all of us, a friend, a sister. It’s been an epic journey with you and we are very proud of what we have achieved together. As you start this new chapter in your life we want you to know that we are solidly behind you and can’t wait for the world to see what we have always believed you can be. Your jersey as the first lady of Mavin will forever be yours as we do not intend to fill that position with anyone else. We love you from the bottom of our hearts and pray God’s blessings to continue to follow you.”
It is cleared that this is not a nasty break up between Tiwa Savage and her team at Mavin Records. If anything, this has even strengthened their relationship. She sent a rather touching message to her team in response to Don Jazzy: ”When I got pregnant, I was nervous to tell you so I decided to tell you at the airport when we were travelling for a show. I figured you couldn’t really say much in a public place but then you told me you already knew and had already been thinking of a plan to keep my brand going while I took some time out.
I was shocked because you weren’t fazed by the news, you had already started making plans. I recorded the RED album while I was heavy and I would fall asleep during sessions and you and the whole team would crash in the studio right there with me till I woke up again and was ready to finish recording.
There was nothing you would hear about me that ever made you mad, no outfit was too crazy, no headline was too controversial for you to handle no crazy outburst no nothing. If I said today wasn’t emotional for me I would be LYING.
Please promise me that our relationship will never change. I only want to make you proud of me. Not every superhero has an S on their chest. You are my superhero DON DORO BUCCI. 7 years, 7 the number of perfection. I LOVE YOU ALWAYS AND FOREVER. Mavin 4life #DiaFada.”
Some of the facilitators present at the signing of the deal at UMG office in California are Joel Katz, Efe Ogbeni, Vanessa Amadi (Stealth Management), Sipho Dlamini, Managing Director of Universal Music South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa (English-speaking), Adam Granite, Executive Vice President, Market Development at Universal Worldwide and Sir Lucian Grainge,Chairman and CEO of Universal Music Group Worldwide.
Tiwa Savage is no doubt a talent to be reckoned with and she recently did Nigeria proudly when she became the first female African act to win the Best African Act at the 2018 MTV European Music Awards, EMA.
