On Sunday, June 9th, 2019, the Council of Patriots held a Press Conference and the petition was read by one of the organisers, Mr. Henry Pedro Costa. Watch below:
During the June 7 protest in Monrovia Liberia, there were several attempts to have the petition of the Council of Patriots ( COP ) received by the Government, but that was not possible. The COP demanded that President George Manneh Weah receives the petition. However, Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor was designated to receive the petition on behalf of the government. The VP did not show up on grounds that she was not faring well.
That did not deter the government. They still reached out to the protesters through the ECOWAS Commission Representative in Liberia, Amb. Babatunde Ajisomo. However, the COP did not deliver the petition to him. Later came a delegation including the Dean of the Cabinet, Foreign Minister M. Gbehzohngar Findley, Cllr. Frank Musah Dean, Justice Minister, Trokon Kpui, Minister of State without Portfolio, the Security and Legal Advisor, Jefferson Karmoh and Cllr. Archibald F. Bernard. COP insisted that they wanted the President himself or his Vice President to receive the petition. That did not happen and the protest ended in a deadlock. The leaders of the protesters kindly asked them to return to their various homes, which they did. It was later announced that a major Press Conference would be held on the 9th of June, 2019.
